Abstract

The study was carried out to assess the quality of some portable water samples available in the Chittagong area. Physicochemical parameters (pH, TDS, hardness, bicarbonate, iron) and microbiological analysis (coliform and SPC) were conducted to monitor the quality of the potable water. From the results of all parameters, it could be concluded that all the water samples had physicochemical parameters (pH, TDS, hardness, iron, and bicarbonate) within normal ranges. Most of the samples, except sample-1, 6, and 10, were contaminated with coliform, which may cause serious health effects. However, the maximum samples maintained the BSTI standard of water (BDS-1240).
